Pre-Treatment Instructions
Dermal Fillers
- If you have a history of Herpes (cold sores) with an outbreaks more than 4 times a year it is recommended that you are pretreated with medication. This office recommends Valtrex 2GM the day before or the day of the treatment and then another 2GM’s 12 hours after the first dose. **Please let us know that you need a prescription if you do not have this medication on hand.
- If you develop a cold / flu, cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, you must reschedule (we will not treat you).
- It is recommended, if you have a special event or vacation coming up, schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance.
- It is recommended you discontinue use of Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising and bleeding. Please discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of discontinuing any of these medications given underlying medical conditions.
- It is recommended that you avoid: Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates (you may eat fruit), spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. (All of these factors may increase risk of bruising)
- It is recommended you discontinue Retin-A two (2-3) days before treatment to avoid increased redness and irritation.
Botulinum Toxin
- In an ideal situation it is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before treatment that can make all the difference between a fair result or great result, by reducing some possible side effects associated with the injections. We realize this is not always possible; however, minimizing these risks is always desirable.
- It is wise to avoid Alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (Alcohol may thin the blood increasing risk of bruising.
- Avoid Anti-inflammatory / Blood Thinning medications ideally, for a period of two (2) weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections.
- Schedule Botox® or Dysport® appointment at least 2-4 weeks prior to a special event which may be occurring, i.e., wedding, vacation, etc. etc. It is not desirable to have a very special event occurring and be bruised from an injection which could have been avoided.
AQUAGOLD® FINE TOUCH®
- It is recommended that you not take aspirin, allergy or cold medication, muscle relaxants, sleep medication, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, or any blood anti-coagulants before this procedure. These medications may increase the risk of bruising. If you can stop these medications, you should do so one (1) week before the procedure but do not do so without discussing with your primary care physician.

- Hair in the treatment and return pad area need to be shaved
- Be well hydrated prior to treatment
- Body piercings may need to be removed if under or near the treatment area

Laser Genesis
- Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment
- Excess hair may need to be shaved. Men should be cleanly shaved
- No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment, includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc.
- Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.)

Laser/Light Hair Reduction
- Hair should be cleanly shaven
- Leave a representative sample unshaven for clinician to assess
- Do not wear makeup on the treated area the day of treatment
- No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment
- Includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc.
- Some medications or supplements may increase the risk bruising. Consult with your physician
- No waxing, plucking or tweezing at least 4 weeks prior to treatment
- Some body parts may require a longer wait time
- Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (depilatories, harsh chemicals, etc.)
- Notify clinic with any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment

Pigmented Lesions with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
- Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment

Platelet-Rich Fibrin
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drink at least 64 oz of water and eat a good snack before coming to prepare for the blood draw.
- Take 2000 mg of Vitamin C daily before your treatment. The earlier you start, the better!
- Avoid Omega 3s, Turmeric, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic Supplements for 7 days prior.
- To lessen your chance of irritation & redness, pause the use of Retinol & exfoliating acids 3 days before your treatment & for 3 days after.
Platelet-Rich Fibrin Gel (EZGel)
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drink at least 64 oz of water and eat a good snack before coming to prepare for the blood draw.
- Take 2000 mg of Vitamin C daily before your treatment. The earlier you start, the better!
- Avoid Omega 3s, Turmeric, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic Supplements for 7 days prior.

Microneedling with or without Platelet-Rich Fibrin
- Avoid Accutane for the past 6 months
- Do not use topical agents that may increase sensitivity of skin: retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, acids that may be drying or irritating to the skin (such as alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) beta hydroxyl acids (BHA), exfoliating masks, salicylic acids, hydroquinone, and benzoyl peroxide acne products) 5-7 days prior
- Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil for 3 days prior to treatment. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation
- Avoidance of IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure or sunburn for 2 weeks prior
- No waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis to area being treated 5-7 days prior
- No shaving the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there is dense hair present in the treatment area, closely shave the area the day before you arrive to your appointment. Moles, warts or actinic (solar) keratosis cannot be treated.
- If you are prone to cold sores, take antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and day of treatment.
- Bruising is a common risk especially with PRP/PRF injections. Avoid blood thinning agents (aspirin, fish oil, Omega-3, Vitamin E) for 1 week prior. If you are on them for a medical reason, please discuss with your Physician.
- Skin is clean without lotion, oil, makeup, powder, perfume or sunscreen. Patient may wash face in office upon arrival.
- Inform provider of any relevant changes in your medical history and of all medications you are taking.
- Notify provider of any cosmetic tattoos to areas being treated.
Facials
- Skin is clean without lotion, oil, makeup, powder, perfume or sunscreen. Patient may wash face in office upon arrival.

Chemical Peels
- 3 DAYS BEFORE treatment: AVOID topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Salicylic Acid, or other “anti-aging”, “acne”, and “bleaching” products. Also AVOID waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
- Inform your provider if you have a history of Facial and/or Nasal Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.
- Do not have a chemical peel if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to any of its ingredients. Please inform your provider if you have any questions about this prior to the treatment.
